The Law Of The Garbage Truck

A friend of mine shared this with me the other day and I thought it was a great lesson for life.

One day I hopped in a taxi and we took off for the airport. We were driving in the right lane when suddenly a black car jumped out of a parking space right in front of us. My taxi driver slammed on his brakes, skidded, and missed the other car by just inches! The driver of the other car whipped his head around and started yelling at us. My taxi driver just smiled and waved at the guy. And I mean, he was really friendly.

So I asked, 'Why did you just do that? This guy almost ruined your car and sent us to the hospital!'
This is when my taxi driver taught me what I now call, 'The Law of the Garbage Truck.'

He explained that many people are like garbage trucks. They run around full of garbage, full of frustration, full of anger, and full of disappointment. As their garbage piles up, they need a place to dump it and sometimes they'll dump it on you Don't take it personally. Just smile, wave, wish them well, and move on. Don't take their garbage and spread it to other people at work, at home, or on the streets.

The bottom line is that successful people do not let garbage trucks take over their day. Life's too short to wake up in the morning with regrets, so...

Love the people who treat you right. Pray for the ones who don't.

Life is ten percent what you make it and ninety percent how you take it!

Now ... go have yourself a blessed, garbage-free day!

40 DOC Rocks!

I am so excited about the prospect of what the next 40 days will hold for our faith family! Yesterday was an incredible day of response to our small group challenge and I truly believe as these groups are nurtured in the Word together and begin to "BE" the church as opposed to simply "DOING" church, we will see our communities set ablaze by the love, grace, mercy and compassion of Jesus Christ. I truly believe that this could be the catalyst that will lead to a great sweep of revival thru out Eastern Buncombe County. As the people around us begin to "see" the characteristics of Christ being manifest in your life, they will be naturally drawn to faith by the power of the Holy Spirit. So what plans do you have to impact your community, your neighborhood, your world? I firmly feel that God has divinely placed each one of us strategically where we are at this place and point in time to usher in a mighty move of His Spirit... What part of that plan does He have for you? Discover your part by being a part of 40 Days of Community (DOC)! 40 DOC Rocks!

The Waiting

All of us have had times when we struggled with decisions and have looked for a way out of situations or messes that we've made for ourselves. Often, God will let us experience the bumps in the road to our destiny. But those bumps aren't there to punish us or torment our minds. Bumps are designed to bring the body and the soul to a place of repentance, reconciliation and peace. In that process, God's love and grace keeps us on course even when we don't realize that He is guiding us. And the wonderful thing about God is that in his mind, it's never too late. He's not on a time table.

God is right in the mix with our destiny. He is not trying to figure out along the way what to do next, nor does God sleep or scratch his head wondering what to do with us. Nothing is too hard for God.

He already has a plan for your life. Jeremiah 29:11 says, "For I know the plans I have for you," declares the Lord, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future."

Jesus told us in Mark 9:23, "And Jesus said to him, If you can! All things are possible for one who believes." That doesn't mean he is like a genie in a bottle, but so long as what we are striving for lines up with the Word, Jesus said, "All things are possible". Something makes me want to jump when I read those scriptures. God loves us so much! He confirms his promises to us over and over in the Word. What He said, He will do.

So in your time of waiting and searching, just remember that delay does not mean denial. And never forget that nothing is impossible for God. No matter how many times you've messed up, or how many times you failed, or how many times you've felt like giving up or that God has given up on you. It's never too late! It's all part of the waiting...

Why I dislike Valentine's Day

Valentine’s day is just around the corner. Most ladies I know like Valentine’s day. Most men I know would like to have Valentine’s day dropped from “official holiday” status. It’s not that we don’t want to show our sweethearts love and affection. But it’s a holiday that has sort of become a day when you have to prove how much you love your lady. It’s like there’s an expectation that you have to spend an entire paycheck if you really love her. That’s a lot of pressure… “Prove your love to me… or else!” And if you don’t show enthusiasm and excitement about Valentine’s day, your woman will likely get upset and get her feelings hurt. In reality, Valentine’s day is the opposite of what I think is romantic. Being romantic for me is being spontaneous, caring, sharing, and loving. I admit that I don’t always succeed, but I try to show my love for Lynn all year long. As I go thru the day and I see something she did that touches me, I try to do something just to surprise her. The problem with Valentine’s Day is there is no surprise.

I don’t hate Valentine’s Day. I just believe that if you have to have a mandatory day of affection for your sweetheart, there’s something wrong with your relationship.

So happy Valentine’s day everybody… But let’s practice showing love to one another everyday.
