Valentine’s day is just around the corner. Most ladies I know like Valentine’s day. Most men I know would like to have Valentine’s day dropped from “official holiday” status. It’s not that we don’t want to show our sweethearts love and affection. But it’s a holiday that has sort of become a day when you have to prove how much you love your lady. It’s like there’s an expectation that you have to spend an entire paycheck if you really love her. That’s a lot of pressure… “Prove your love to me… or else!” And if you don’t show enthusiasm and excitement about Valentine’s day, your woman will likely get upset and get her feelings hurt. In reality, Valentine’s day is the opposite of what I think is romantic. Being romantic for me is being spontaneous, caring, sharing, and loving. I admit that I don’t always succeed, but I try to show my love for Lynn all year long. As I go thru the day and I see something she did that touches me, I try to do something just to surprise her. The problem with Valentine’s Day is there is no surprise. I don’t hate Valentine’s Day. I just believe that if you have to have a mandatory day of affection for your sweetheart, there’s something wrong with your relationship. So happy Valentine’s day everybody… But let’s practice showing love to one another everyday.
