Legacy

This past week we've experienced three deaths. Wednesday, a friend and former member of my last church died suddenly at the age of 44. Then on Thursday, my uncle Claude died at the age of 91. On Friday, A member of my current church died at the age of 80. As I thought about these three men, I couldn't help thinking about the godly legacy they each left behind. They were men of integrity, conviction, faith, and generosity. They impacted many lives during their years on earth, not because of just one event, but because of a life time of making a difference - one step at a time.

I'm sure you're all familiar with Cal Ripken, the former professional baseball player. Cal is famous for playing 2632 games consecutively. He was a good player, but it's not his stellar baseball skill that he will be remembered for. He will forever be a legend because of his consistency - one game at a time. Cal had a lot of critics, especially during his earlier years. His career was littered with errors, and many in the baseball industry thought he was over rated and would never make it in the big leagues. But Cal stayed dedicated, moving one step at a time from loser to legend.
Life is a journey of taking one step at a time. And thru the good times and the bad, God is at work behind the scenes of His children. His goal is to give you victory over your critics, over your stumbles, over your errors and over your sin. He wants you to live a life that makes a difference and is remembered by those who come after you. Maybe you feel as though you could never measure up to that sort of standard. Well, on your own, you can't. But with Christ living in and thru you, continue to take one step at a time and the legacy you will leave will be a godly one - consistent, victorious, encouraging, and Christ-like.
Death knows no age limits... Death is no respecter of persons... Live each day as if it were your last - because it might be.... What will be your legacy?
